Newfoundland Transshipment Limited

Newfoundland Transshipment Limited (NTL) was formed in 1996 to oversee the construction and operation of a major marine transshipment facility located at Whiffen Head, Placentia Bay, Newfoundland on Canada's east coast. Construction of the Terminal was completed in the fall of 1998 and the operation has been ongoing since that time. The Terminal received its first production from the Hibernia field on October 01, 1998 and from the Terra Nova field on February 02, 2002.

Placentia Bay is one of the world's largest and deepest navigable bay and is one of Canada's largest ports based on tonnage, largely crude oil and petroleum products. Placentia Bay is a compulsory pilotage port, under the Atlantic Pilotage Authority. Vessel Traffic is managed by a Vessel Traffic Management Center operated by the Canadian Coast Guard, located at Argentia, twenty miles south of the NTL Terminal. All vessels visiting NTL's Whiffen Head Terminal are independently vetted by an independent external agency.

The NTL facility was specifically designed to handle crude oil production from the Hibernia and Terra Nova fields located offshore Newfoundland. Both fields are located some 325km east of Newfoundland in the northwest Atlantic Ocean. Field production is nominally 200,000 bpd from the Hibernia Field and 150,000 bpd from the Terra Nova field.

The Terminal is designed to transship the full production of these fields, un-comingled, and does so through its offloading and loading facility, main jetties and 3,000,000 barrels of storage capacity. Crude deliveries from offshore facilities are effected by way of a dedicated fleet of 130,000 dwt shuttle vessels. NTL also owns and operates two tugs capable of docking and escorting tankers safely to and from the facility.

The Terminal's major aim is to handle and transship the full production of both fields safely, efficiently and without impact on the production capacity of either of these major offshore production installations.

NTL has a stellar record of personnel safety and environmental stewardship and prides itself on a philosophy of continuous training for all levels of personnel in all areas of operation, safety and environmental care and concern.
